Volunteer Opportunity! Teach FinLit Basics to Detained Youth

Starts: 10-14-2025
Location: 425 Harvard Street, Boston, MA 02124 volunteer opportunity location

Description:

I am looking for two individuals to join me in delivering a financial literacy session at a young women's detention center on 425 Harvard Street in Dorchester on Tuesday, October 14, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This session will focus on basic financial skills for young women, ages 14 to 18, who will likely re-enter the community within the year.

The session will begin with a 20-minute presentation covering key topics such as banking and credit scores, using a pre-prepared slide deck. Following the presentation, we will facilitate a breakout session to help participants apply the concepts in real-world contexts, and allow time for any questions they may have.

Although this is a one-time event, there is potential for this to evolve into a longer-term partnership, with sessions held once a quarter. However, there is no obligation to commit beyond this initial session.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
