Shared Caregiving - How Fathers Can Support Women's Advancement: Member Perspective

By Sean Fullerton posted 06-26-2020 15:12

How many weeks of paid parental leave does the average organization provide to men, and are managers and peers supportive of men taking that leave? What is a “Conflicted Dad”, and why are conflicted fathers less happy at home and at work? What kinds of conversations should couples be having on the way household responsibilities and caregiving roles are split? How can organizations increase employee loyalty while enabling both men and women to succeed in their careers?

Dr. Brad Harrington, Executive Director of Boston College’s Center for Work and Family addressed these questions and more in this CFA Boston webinar.

As a new father myself, I was fascinated by what I learned. The webinar inspired me to reflect on the shared responsibilities in my household, and to initiate a conversation with my wife about our household responsibilities and how I can best support her in her career while also enjoying time with our daughter. To be honest, I am a work in progress and I saw this webinar as one step in my effort to be the best husband and father I can be. I intend to be proactive both in my own home as well as in the workplace, especially in supporting my colleagues when they need to take time to care for their families.

I hope you’ll take this opportunity to listen in to this valuable conversation. Watch the webinar here: https://youtu.be/Il1ivggBK0Q
